Dear City councilmember , why don't you collect the garbage, instead of collecting parking tickets? Your priorities are wrong, clean our downtown first!!

For so many years we have witnessed the deterioration of Berkeley's downtown: the litter, the homeless, and the lack of businesses. It has become a place that people are trying to avoid.

Yikes! Berkeley has a unique spirit, but the downtown area is quite appalling.

I remember when I first came to CA from NYC 30 years ago, everyone in Berkeley made fun of me, the New Yorker. They kept commenting on the homeless and filth in the streets of NYC Well, I think I am having the last laugh. In the past 30 years, Berkeley residents worked hard at copying the old NYC. Now, look at how clean and safe NYC. Can you copy that. I wish I was back in NYC.

The downtown is scary. I would like to know what the city is doing to save it, as the slide has more than begun. A suggestion: Subsidize one LARGE store to the downtown. A mass-appeal, not high-end, not low-end store. Suggestion: a student-skewed Ikea would be perfect. Put a speciality cookie store next to it. But do something!!!

berkberkberkeleymake - really good ideas. I think i heard the city council members say that the Berkeley downtown is in deparate need of "upping", but i doubt they will be able to attract businesses now, that store afer store is closing and the sales tax are higher.

You are right, downtown Berkeley is scary. It is probably the only university town to look so ugly and neglected. It is because the city council of Berkeley is actively encouraging homeless people and gangs to take over our downtown. Why would Apple computers put its store in Emeryville when all the buyers come from Berkeley? Because no one wants to put his business in a place that looks ugly and

We need to do something drastic to take back our city from the idiots that run it. It is about time that people that pay taxes will have a representation. We should impeach the city council and put the city in the hands of people that can truly represent us!

12.1.2009 - My husband and I (both retired military) decided to leave our back-woods, gang infested, drug pushing neighborhood in NC to retire to a clean, safer environment where we could live out our lives in relative peace and safety. So we built a house in the Prescott, AZ area. In December of 2008 we discovered that our licensed, (and vetted by the bank) building contractor was taking the money from our building loan and using it to buy property for himself and pay for a spec home he was building at the same time. Once discovered, he freely admitted the theft and then promptly disappeared, leaving our home only half built.

2.4.2010 - Subject: Sharp Vacuum, Model EC-S5170 On January 18, 2010, your salesman Bill Wojerski called on us to demonstrate a Filter Queen system. We felt the product was good, though expensive. We did decide to take the product, though we were unable to get financing of $2100.00. Your salesman made us another offer of $1500.00 for the product @ $45.00 month, with the first payment being February 18, 2010. There is no finance contract.

2.4.2010 - If you want good dental care do not go to San Jacinto Dental in San Jacinto Calif. A relative of mine was convinced to remove her back fillings and replace them with new material that is less hazardous to the body The dental work was done incorrectly She has had three root cannels for the damage done One of them is till not right She makes appointments and they are cancelled unbeknowest to her She works an hour away They have made her pay for the damage done Another dentist gave a second opinion and literally told her that she was in a rock and a hard place for what they did She has complained to her insurance company The kicker was when one of the dentists there told her not to come back He was leaving because this place was going to ruin his rep So please stay away Even with dental insurance you just can't pick who is any good
