This is awaful what you have to go through, and unacceptable. At least in CA we have seen a change in that direction, more and more ramps and accessibility considerations.

I am surprised you didn't upload your sotry to www.myCityscrewups.com under the infrastructure category, so that everyone can see and send your story to the city of Fremont. I wonder how the city manager would react if you mention you were going to have a chat with your lawyer. They might rush and repair your curbs.

got a letter from engineer John Kuzme, letter told me the city would have city council review proposed projects at the budget meeting in March 2008. That he would propose it then. You would think something could be done before that. My wheelchair and my safty don't feel it is right that I have to wait till next June to see if the proposal went through.

This is unbelievable. You have an option to vote them out for treating you like that. People like you cannot wait 6 months. A threat of lawsuit might make them act faster.

Please upload your complaint to the webiste. Viewers will be able to click the "take action" link and choose the city manager email (if your city publishes an email address). Then your city manager will get your complaint in an email, the more viewers "take action", the more emails your city manager will get.

What's happening with Legal Aid? What's happening with the city? Did you upload this complaint to the site so we can click on "take action"?

This is really sad that in this era people with disabilities and limitations of all sorts have to still fight to get their basic rights.

Where is the ACLU? This is clearly a civil right case, and discrimination. I guess the ACLU is not interested unless it's a politically "correct" case that suports their agenda. If ACLU by itself is a discriminatory entity, it's not a civil right organization, but a political one. You should send your complain to them and we will watch their responce.

You cannot let go of this, don't give up and fight them hard. You should not be struggling for your basic rights! Seek legal advice.

Public access for people with disabilities is covered under the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Find out if there are organizations that provide advocacy for disabled people in your area. Contact them and see if they could determine if the sidewalk, etc. is not ADA compliant.

A federal complaint can be filed with the US Department of Justice if a public service and/or accomodation is denied to the disabled in governemnt services.
